History

OUR STORY BEGINS

In 1993, Tony Misajon, Jess Manongdo and Julie Nyitray established an organization aimed at assisting elderly Filipinos who had immigrated to Australia to reunite with their families. These elderly individuals often experienced significant feelings of isolation and a deep longing for integration within the community and the companionship of other elderly Filipinos. In response to these challenges, the founders sought guidance and support from various government agencies, departments, and officials. Their concerted efforts culminated in the creation of the Pilipino Elderly Association of South East Region (PEASER).

PEASER initially focused on providing a supportive community for elderly Filipinos, addressing their social and cultural needs. As the organization grew, it expanded its scope to include the younger generation, welcoming them as volunteers and honorary members. This inclusive approach not only fostered intergenerational connections but also strengthened the organization’s community ties.

Over the years, PEASER has actively engaged with various ethnic groups and the broader Australian community. Through cultural exchange programs and collaborative events, the organization has showcased Filipino culture, thereby enriching the experiences and enhancing the self-worth of its senior members. This engagement has also facilitated a broader understanding and appreciation of Filipino heritage within the Australian multicultural landscape.

The strength of PEASER lies in its dedicated and loyal members and volunteers. For over 25 years, these individuals have tirelessly committed their time and energy to the organization’s mission, significantly contributing to the wellbeing of the community. Their unwavering dedication has been instrumental in sustaining and growing PEASER, ensuring it remains a vital support system for elderly Filipinos in the region.
